A mid-west utility approached Controllix with a request to replace their existing outdoor metal enclosed 34.5kV, 1200A fixed breaker used for the daily switching of a remotely located Controllix 10.8MVAR capacitor bank. A capacitor switch with a pre-insertion resistor to limit the inrush current was chosen in place of the fix breaker. The end-user was pleased with the cost savings with both the retrofit equipment savings and reduced energy costs.
